Immensely enjoyable gig. First time I'd seen Mark solo, just him and his guitar. Even more full of between song banter than at Bluetones gigs, fueled by large glasses of white wine! I was toying with the idea of going to see Half Man Half Biscuit instead the same evening, but I genuinely believe I got more laughs from Mark, and HMHB are a scream live.
We got about an hour and 40 minutes comprising of songs from all eras of his career, surprisingly throwing in quite a few Bluetones songs, including Slight Return, Sleazy Bed Track, Slack Jaw, Bluetonic, Marblehead Johnson and A New Athens. Covers included Teenage Fanclub's Alcoholiday and Neil Young's Old Man (and a few bars of Ziggy Stardust ;D).
I'd strongly recommend you don't miss him if he's coming near you on his upcoming tour.
As for the crowd, I was told that it was the biggest audience they'd had there for a gig. Just a shame that a few of the locals were too noisy even when Mark was singing. They could have gone to a pub, and not paid £11 a ticket, to behave like that!
